Mediasync is a plug-in to transfer several media types to your portable device and is currently in development by mcesoft. Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition does have built-in support for synchronising your media files with a portable device, but the downfall here is that only the newer devices are supported. A lot of people have probably hooked up their Pocket PC to their Media Center only to discover Media Center advising them to synchronise their device using Window Media Player.
As with all other plug-ins by mcesoft, the plug-in will be available in several languages. At the current time the plug-in is in Private Beta to do the initial testing of the functionality for transfering music to a portable device. During the Private Beta period some languages will be added and we hope to receive more languages when the Public Beta starts. There is also the posibility to change the background image so you can give a personal touch to the plug-in. Three images are included, and you can off course add your own images.
So what media types can you transfer to your portable device? Well, you can off course synchronise your music files. Mediasync will automatically read the user configured playlists and you can easily navigate with your remote to select the playlist(s) you want on your portable device. And it doesn't just copy the songs in the selected playlist(s) it will also create the appropriate playlist on your device so you can just select it and start playback right away. But it's not just music you can transfer to your portable device, pictures and videos will also be supported. The videofiles will off course have to be in the correct format, something that can easily be done with dCut or dvr2wmv.
At this moment Mediasync only supports Pocket PC’s (running Microsoft Windows Mobile) but its intended to have it support more devices. For the Pocket PC's Mediasync uses the standard synchronisation software for the Pocket PC: ActiveSync so this has to be installed for the plug-in to work. Mediasync is tested with ActiveSync version 3.7 and 3.8. There will also be the opportunity to have the music files saved in folders based on the 'artist' and 'album' tag, so if a song is in multiple playlists the song just has to be copied once to your device to save diskspace. You will also have the opportunity to see what media you have on your device and to delete media you no longer want on it, for music this will be done by simply selecting the playlist and clicking the delete button.
