TapiRex is a Windows-Tool that shows incoming calls with number, name and picture of the caller. It can run as single-computer-installation (caller-id-enabled phone-line is connected to the machine on which the notification should show up) or as client-server-installation (1 machine connected to phone-line has the TapiRex Server installed and all other machines have the TapiRex Client installed to get the notifications). All that is needed is a modem that has a TAPI compatible driver and offcourse a telephone company that supplies a caller-id.

To show incoming calls in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, there is a Media Center plug-in for TapiRex, that displays a message box when there is an incomming call and it can also display a call historie. To get the TapiRex Caller ID functionality working on your media you need to install both the TapiRex Software and the mceTapiRex for Media Center Plug-in. At this time the software are still in beta, but both are available for download. TapiRex can be used with any database, including Outlook and of course mceContacts. New version available (18-01-2004) changes include: - now shows call in Media Center correct - outlook-connection fixed - now shows duration of calls - gets names of unknown caller from the internet (USA, Germany, Italy) - minor tweaks, fixes, ...
